CHINO HILLS RECOGNIZES COMMUNITY HEROES AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR
Chino Hills Day is Sept. 25

Each year the L.A. County Fair honors Community Heroes – seniors, adults and young adults – from 19 surrounding Inland Valley cities during the 23 days of the Fair, Sept. 5 – Oct. 4. Friday, Sept. 25 is Chino Hills Day at the Fair, a day to celebrate the city’s volunteers, humanitarians, students, neighbors and community organizations working to make Chino Hills a better place to live for everyone.

Chino Hills Day festivities include a race in the Fairplex Park race meet named in honor of Chino Hills, a parade down Broadway at 5 p.m. and a presentation on the Pepper Street Stage honoring West Covina community heroes at 5:30 p.m.

Taking a prominent place in the parade is Anthony Armendariz, the Chino Hills junior community hero, because “his willingness to volunteer is amazing and astounding. Even when he was young he had the willingness to help others.” Anthony participates in Pee Wee sports, Rosebay Kidz, a group of neighborhood youngsters that volunteer to help children in Hillview Acres children’s home and Wickman Education, helping the organization fix computers they provide to needy children.

Joining Anthony in the community parade and on the hero’s stage is Judy Rogers, voted Chino Hills' adult community hero for her “hard work, feisty spirit and kind heart.” Judy and her husband, Ned, have run “Caring for the Hills” since 2000, a non-profit organization that helps the needy. She coordinates meal deliveries for seniors and neighbors in need. She also coordinates food drives to restock her shelves for needy families. During the summer, works to fill backpacks with supplies for children in need. “Judy is a one-woman caregiver who is more like a force of nature who provides for many, many thousands of people each year.”

Chino Hills residents, friends, family and supporters can join their community celebration at a reduced admission price with a buy-one-get-one-free admission coupon good for Friday, Sept. 25! Coupons are available at the Chino Hills Chamber of Commerce, City Hall and other community locations. Come for the Fair; stay for the Chino Hills community festivities.

The L.A. County Fair continues Wednesday – Sunday through Oct. 4, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Live thoroughbred horse racing Sept. 10 – 28, dark Mondays Sept. 14 and 21 and Tuesdays. For information on ways to save at the Fair, visit lacountyfair.com.
